The hair transplant is practised throughout the world through 3 different methods and not all efficient. We will summarize these methods to help you make the right choice :
With the help of these 3 descriptive pictures, what is the method of micro transplant that you seem the most reliable and efficient ?
|
1. The cut of your scalp that will leave scars and pain? |
2. An inefficient and non-visible result with a substantial cost that will give you low density hair? |
3. A method that will let you a natural and dense result, scarless or painless ?

The offers on the Internet are so numerous, they are so confusing and disparate that even the own specialist finds difficulties to know which method is used by his/her colleagues… Transmit the following questions to your doctor before deciding the kind of operation… :
1. How is the extraction ?
- « Strip » ? All doctors that use this extraction method should be responsible for: the risks of complication, infection, of pain for life in the extracted area and of the scars. It is also important that he/she informs of the impossibility of recovering baldness after 2 or 3 operations... This method should be prohibited definitively.
- « FUE » ? Surgeon will cut the graft strongly with a manual tool: The crushed skin that is produced in this operation of extraction will ruin the follicle and it will extract the nutritious and protective grease. In addition, the own extraction of the graft with an instrument called punch damage it irremediably. Between 40 and 60% extracted grafts and with diameters less than 1.5 mm * will not grow.
- With 2mm rotary « punch » ? Of course it is the most honest and effective method. The following reasons explain why :
| • |
There is no loss or lack of growth grafts, rarely 1 or 2 grafts on the whole, and not 30 to 60% like in other methods…
|
| • |
The density is much higher without really damaging the extracted area (donor area). We have to distinguish from the old methods 3, 4, 5 mm* diameter extraction…)
|
| • |
This method allows unlimited extractions and exactly as required. It can completely rebuild all hair in a total baldness on Hamilton’s stage VII (if the density and high crown is enough). |
2. What diameter «punch» should you use ?
| • |
0.75 or 0.8 mm *: the grafts are made of the own hair (rarely we can get 2 with this diameter), we will get little organic material around. The small follicle of its end shows little protection and therefore making it highly vulnerable and causes the loss 40 to 60% of the extracted and implants again grafts that will never grow again. Without forgetting that such a small size makes that during extraction grafts with the required follicle can’t obtain…
|
| • |
1 mm *: an average of 1.2 hairs over the grafts transplanted and therefore we have the same problems than the previous case. Unless it is lowered the percentage of implants without possibility of growing to the 30 or 40% on the total of those extracted.
|
| • |
Approximately 1.5 mm* or less: 1 to 4 hairs on average plant just of the whole transplant with a little more organic material around the follicle ( if a good cut is performed with rotary "punch"). This time the percentage of grafts that don’t grow is 20% |
|

In this image some extracted implants of a strip are shown. They have been scratched to soften their angles but that caused that the organic material around the follicles disappeared :
With this method 1, 2 hairs for implant are obtained. Sometimes we can get 3, very rarely 4… |
|
 |
| • |
Below we can see a graft 2mm *wide: 4 to 8 hairs with an average of 6 hairs over the whole transplant. In this case we get enough organic material around the follicle with a perfect cut using a rotary punch. |

3. How to choose a good clinic? ?
1. Eliminate outset Shopping Malls where you may see only the commercial touts, ever the doctor, and have not set up shop in a real clinic accredited… First of all, you must eliminate those commercial clinical centers where the only contact will present like a commercial advisor and never like a doctor and whose facilities doesn’t correspond to a real accredited clinic….
These centres are competing on their misleading fares as they confuse the number of grafts with the number of implanted hair, without taking into account that 30 to 60% will not grow… Of course, they have no problems to do a misleading advertisement where the used method is not shown clearly in any moment.
2. Surgeon who will perform the operation must have experience and be able to practise all methods with punch indepently its diameter. And he shouldn’t be a fundamentalist of only one method…
3. His main activity must be "hair transplant" and he shouldn’t perform more than two transplants per day.
4. He should not practise “strips" extraction.
5. It must not deceive on accounting hairs (see our website "COMPARATIVE TABLE OF METHODS"): As those who say: - 3 to 4 hairs on average per graft of about 1.5 mm* in diameter, - Or 3 hairs on average per graft less than 1 mm* in diameter. they made a mistake because there are about: -2 hairs on average for the whole of the transplant performed with grafts about 1.5 mm* in diameter, - 1.2 hairs on average for the whole of the transplant performed with grafts about 1 mm* in diameter, ,
Indeed, some people confuse the maximum hair per graft with an average over the entire graft… multiplying by two the real quantity. If sometimes you have 4 hairs in 1.4 mm* diameter graft, it is also true that there are many more grafts 1 which only have 1 and 2 hairs and not 3 or 4. This will never give an average of 4 hairs per graft. In addition, the important thing is not the number of grafts removed and implanted again. The important thing is the number of hairs that grow again after the implant… To calculate the number of that quantity, we must multiply the number of grafts by the number of hairs that we get on average in each one of them
|

|
| |
| Here is a picture of FUE (one year), where it was promised 1,000 grafts from 1 to 3 hairs per graft. Therefore according to the doctor 3,000 grafts. In fact, it has only grown less than 300 hairs (Paris 2006)… |
6. It shouldn’t propose rates of operations as: « 1000 grafts by… X… euros » or as some people say nowadays longer is the session more hair can be extracted….This practice has the risk that the patient has to return a large number of times for a result that will only depend on the number of hair which will grow after implant. And where in most cases, it is extracted 0.8 mm diameter grafts with 1, 2 hairs on average and whose percentage of success is between 20 and 40% (as the patient in the picture above). You must specify in writing: the minimum guaranteed grafts and the average hair per grafts. Another aspect you can specify is the minimum amount of hair guarantee… |
